Strong conditionally unstable sounding this morning at UIL as a springtime shortwave / upper level low parks over the area ... 500 mb temps below -30 deg C + summertime insolation should support some strong cells this afternoon and evening. Convective showers around WWA today: expecting some downpours + hail + lightning this afternoon. Not really the most favorable conditions for funnel clouds, despite some relatively strong convection, however.
An interesting thing with this Low, conditions are just right for it to close up, cutoff, and head south into California. This will bring some much needed rain to the state, but not nearly enough to put a dent in the deficits. Should result in some interesting thunderstorms in central California later this week though.
